I hear that Callaghan Innovation has just released its R&D funding programme of Loans if you are an R&D intensive business? Can anyone tell me the key terms of eligibility?
I started freelancing (as a sole trader) soing social media management for a charity back in December 2019 doing 10 to 15 hours a week. During Jan to Mar I worked between 30 and 40 hours a week, not all charged work as a big chunk of the work I was doing was meetings, research (content, keyword, competitor analysis, industry research), worked on their social media strategy, website planning and coyp and social media profile set up for a client who in April, and after all the work I had done, advised he was unable to pay for my work and cancelled any future work, due to Covid19 (he is in Commercial Real Estate). I never applied for the subsidy because I continued working on one of my contracts, but this was only 10 to 15 hours a week. My questions are: can I lawfully apply for the subsidy? If so, do I qualify for the 20+ hours a week? I don’t want to abuse the system nor get in trouble with IRD/Work and Income, but everyone around me has applied and is telling me to but I want to check due to my unique situation. Thanks so much in advance for your advice!
Hey, did I hear some changes to the wage extension and the small business loan today? what’s the story?
Hi, I am a cafe owner in Hamilton. I bought the business 18 months ago by taking a loan on my house. I worked incredibly hard and have managed to pay back the loan in January 2020. However because I put all my profits into paying back the loan, I didnt have much additional capital spare when COVID hit. Plus a put in some new gear in January e.g. new coffee machine. During COVID I have had to pay rent, lease on EFTPOS machine, lease on coffee machine plus ensure I was paying staff enough to get to the 80% salary level for each staff member to get the Wage Subsidy. I have talked to my landlord and other suppliers to get holidays/reduction on my fixed monthly costs. All of them have said no. Therefore during Lockdown I had zero revenue and used up all my excess capital on the costs mentioned above. We have re-opened but business is only a fraction of pre-COVID. I am now getting close to the decision of closing my business. The bank wont loan money on my house as the business cant service it. I dont want to take the government small business loan as if I am honest the fundamentals of my business are not going to get back to a sustainable level. I plan to close the business. Does anybody have any ideas or comments. Thanks in advance.
Hi, I had just started a business before the pandemic. I think that there is a grant for any new business that is under a year old. Do you know if this is true? If it is can you show me where I can claim. Also i heard that there is a COVID-19 business helpline run by the government. Is this correct? What is the number? Thanks for your help.

Hi Folks, Keen to understand what the R&D loan deal is that was announced in the budget, I have googled with no detailed answer. We are a tech business that invests a large percentage of our business in R&D costs we are Callaghan registered. Does anyone know? Cheers, Paul
I was in the process of buying a cafe when the Covid 19 struck. I wanted to turn it into a day cafe cum evening wine & dessert bar, something that my town does not currently have. However, it is becoming hard for me to secure a bank loan because I do not know if a bank would give me an unsecured business loan at this time. is the government providing any support for a new business to be set up that would be able to contribute to employing people and help stimulate the town’s economy in its own small way?
Hi, we are a small online food subscription company starting up, we have been working with MPI to get our certification to get started but unfortunately due to Covid this seems to have taken way longer than normal. My question though as we cant prove that our business has been affected through loss of sales due to covid is there any grants that we would be able to apply for to help us get off the ground? Thanks
My small business has only been registered and running since late December last year – I am stuck wondering what financial help or benefits is available as I can’t provide reports of finances from the previous year but can provide evidence of financial impact due to lockdown?
good morning.we have a traditional Thai massage place in Pukekohe (sabaigaya.co.nz ) and we are closed for now 7 week and we still don’t know of we can open in level 2 .we still had to pay full lease every month ,power bill, rates ,ect ect and now we had to pay gst ass well i work for 6 year 7 days and 10 hours a day and now i am going to lose everything what i have worked for ,is there any help for me
. I am seeking advice and assistance. I am an independent fitness centre owner who is still required to stay closed in level 3. I have a difficult decision to make, if to close my business indefinitely. I have reviewed the short and long term financial projections of the company and due to a prolonged lockdown it seems to be not feasible for the business to stay trading..i have applied for the wage subsidy, which has been helpful. Can you inform me if there is any subsidy or assistance for the lease rent and other overheads. I have only been in business for a year, and made no profit in the first year of trading. I do not wish to take out a loan as I will not have the means to pay it back. My market research indicates that clients are very hesitant and fear spread of infection, this has now produce a substantial decline in membership and for the foreseeable future. The UK are not allowing gyms to reopen until September as they are deemed one of the worst places to spread the virus. And this has been reflected in my clients feedback.please can you advise what financial assistance is available to enable me to stay afloat.
when can we apply for financial support from government? thanks
