LETS GET DOWN TO BUSINESS.

Question :
Hi guysI love that there’s a place to ask questions!  I’ve started a small business making baby accessories (mainly teething aids) and I’m keen to get them safety tested.  But I cant find any information on where to go to do this and if its compulsory or not.  Any advice?  I have the relevant standard. Thank you!Janna

  • Morena Janna – let me see if I can hunt around to get you this answer. Andy

    Hi Janna

Yes, you’ll need to ensure the products are safe (particularly given the nature of the products) – there are consumer and other laws that require the products to be safe (e.g. Consumer Guarantees Act and Fair Trading Act). The products will need to comply with product safety standards as you’ve identified – click here for more information from the Commerce Commission, and here to search standards available through Standards NZ.

There are product testing services in New Zealand, for example click here for  SGS.

    I hope that helps.

    Kind regards
    Ed

Thank you so much Edwin – I’ll look at the SGS site & get in contact with them.
