LETS GET DOWN TO BUSINESS.

Question :
Hi Manaaki.I’m not a business, just an individual with an idea and no clue how to advance to the next step of finding who to talk to about it.It’s a very simple idea that will save lives. It’s for our emergency services. The people I’ve spoken to who would use this product/service, fire, ambulance and police, have all said It’s a great idea and will definitely save lives and that I should talk to their bosses. The more I looked into it and the further up the food chain I got, the more red tape and bureaucracy I encountered. This will probably need governmental approval and implementation. All I have is an idea. It’s so easy to implement into our nationwide systems, I’ve checked. All it’d need is approval from up high and some very simple software that even I could write. All I want it to do at the moment is to save lives, and it will. That was guaranteed to me by the emergency services people I spoke with (about 40 of them across the services). The thing is, the systems that are needed for this to work, which are all there and in use already nationwide, are also used in Australia, the UK, Canada and the U.S. As well as other countries. If we get this going here then I could have a product to sell overseas to support my family. That’s my main driving force behind reaching out to you now. Thanks for reading this and I’m sorry for the cryptic wording. It’s such a simple idea that I don’t want anyone else stealing it.I need your help there too.Cheers for any help,Pete.Ps I’m in CHCH so if any of you are here too then a meeting with you would be wonderful, if you do that sort of thing.

  • Morning Pete – epic, well done for the ‘insight’, the sharing and asking for help – is there anyway you could create an MVP or mock-up of the software/product that you could take into the senior part of potential customers? One word of caution/reflection – often when we have an idea we seek validation from people by asking them what they think of it, as opposed to asking potential users and customers, what do they do now, how do they operate and what challenges do they have? What we want to find is what their current issues and problems are, that hopefully this product will solve. Otherwise it is a solution looking for a problem.

So my main question is how much have you focused on what they do right now, and how this compliments that, adds value etc.

Also, who will ‘pay’ for this product?

Come back to me and maybe I can chat to you offline – sorry, based in Auckland but can chat on the blower – Andy

I just read this blog this morning, really good advice and tips in it – https://medium.com/swlh/13-insights-from-y-combinator-that-every-founder-needs-to-know-ffc4be002e4c

    Hi Andy,
Thanks for the reply! I’d love to chat with you on the phone. How do I get my number to you, or vica versa, privately?
As for users, I’ve chatted to a good number of emergency service people who have said that it would indeed be a benefit. That’s what kinda gave me hope and kept me slowly chugging away at it over the years.
I have answers to most of the questions you asked but I think I only really asked the service people if they think such a system would save lives, not what sort of tech etc they already have. Not in much detail anyhoo. I’ll get on to that over the next few days as my neighbour is a fireman, I’ll quiz him 🙂
I know that a thing like my idea is not in existence currently but has been pondered before by others but not in the way that I’ve imagined it.
I’m really looking forward to chatting to you about it.

    Cheers,

    Pete
