How does the wage subsidy extension work? Can I apply for it now for the first time?

Hi there – the Wage Subsidy and the Wage Subsidy Extension are still operating. For the Extension it is open to applying up until 1 September if you have suffered a 40% downturn in your business as per the finer detail – https://covid19.govt.nz/business-work-and-money/financial-support/financial-support-for-businesses/#small-business-cashflow-loan-scheme
You may also be able to apply for the Leave Support Scheme – if you have been impacted by the recent changes.

You can apply for the wage subsidy extension even if you did not apply under the original scheme. As Andy has said the application period ends 1 September although there has been some discussion of a further extension for Auckland business if level 3 continues beyond Friday I wouldn’t rely on that if you already qualify for the subsidy. Applications can be made at the following address and the criteria are set out there too. Be sure to read the declaration you are signing by applying but otherwise its a simple process. Claire
