LETS GET DOWN TO BUSINESS.
Question :
I’m hoping someone can give me some advice? I’m not a business but I started from the ground up a community centre last december 2019 and of course had to close our doors due to Covid 19. Apart from having our Certificate of Incorporation I am still in the process of getting our IRD, Charities number and funding. Is there some advice or financial help that we may be able to apply for to help with ongoing essential costs. We are not a church or council run community centre. Thankyou. Heather Taylor

Heather, there is a chance you maybe able to claim the wage subsidy but it probably requires some closer look there – suggest reaching out to Annah’s group makes a lot of sense – all the best – https://covid19.govt.nz/businesses-and-employees/businesses-and-services/
Heather,
The team at Charities Services are also really helpful in being able to direct you to places – they have a lot of advice about what support is available to charities through the Covid-19 period. https://www.charities.govt.nz/covid-19/ or call them on 0508 Charities
In addition to the amazing support that Anna and her group will be able to provide – check out https://www.akina.org.nz/covid19 for links to some more information.

If you’re still providing services to your community during this time, you may be eligible for MSD grants of up to $5000 – https://www.msd.govt.nz/about-msd-and-our-work/newsroom/2020/covid-19/community-awareness-and-preparedness-grant-fund.html. These grants are available to community groups who aren’t registered.
If you meet the MSD criteria, contact us at Hui E! Community Aotearoa and we can connect you with a pro-bono grant writer to apply for this fund – http://www.huie.org.nz/covid-19/for-community-groups/
You can also check our Strategic Grants who provide an updated page of grants available – https://www.strategicgrants.co.nz/free-resources/covid-19-news

RochelleHeather – a follow-up update that the MSD $5000 funding grant has now closed. There was an announcement in yesterday’s budget of $36m funding which sounds similar but we’ll need to wait & see what’s available.
In the interim, suggest you connect with your local City Council if you haven’t already. They will likely have funds you can apply for.
You can also use the paid side of Strategic Grants – https://www.strategicgrants.co.nz/ – which would give you access to a funding database.
