      Question submitted 08/08/20 @ 05:51pm

Kia ora,  “Kawakawa Bless” is my small business just out of Kaitaia. I manufacture vegan kawakawa rongoa of my own recipe. I developed this for myself out of necessity following servere injuries which left me with chronic pain and CPTSD. After many years of injections in my back and ribs and medicines that are highly addictive in nature, I felt extremely hopeless, I was not improving.  I chose to stop all conventional medicines over 5 years ago, using only my balm everyday since. I have gained a big part of my life back whilst still currently working on intergrating back into the community and whanau/hapu threw EMDR therapy and with the tautoko of my Wakaama sisters of my NHH “Hoe Ora” Team.My question is how can I grow my business in marketing and sales online, in both retail and bulk supply to a level where I can survive independently? I would ideally prefer to bulk supply as it is the quiet side of the business I enjoy the most.                                                                                                                        Nga mihi  Nanette Henry for Kawakawa Bless, Whakaora Mai I Mangataiore

      Question submitted 24/07/20 @ 08:40am

Hi there, we are starting out as a sustainable New Zealand swimwear label. We are currently prototyping our products, we’re working with a swimwear manufacturer in Bali for this process. This question relates to manufacturing in New Zealand. Ideally we would love to be able to manufacture in New Zealand once we go into production, however, from what we have heard so far New Zealand doesn’t have the right machinery needed for swimwear / stretchwear anymore as most large companies e.g lingerie companies e.g. BONDS (that can also cater for underwire etc.) have moved their manufacturing overseas. I am wondering if someone might be able to give me a nudge in the right direction as I am still keen to get our swimwear made in New Zealand. However, would like to work with the right manufacturer who has experience in either the swimwear or lingerie field. Let me know if you know more than I do! Many many thanks, Lisa P.s. would love to know if there are any good associations to link up with as well, who are open to work with designers who are new to the industry.

Kia ora koutouComing up on August 17 will be 3 years since the  launch of Empowered Parenthood Ltd.  We have a reasonable audience of over 15k across our social media channels but our sales have been incredibly slow.I would love help around brand recognition and marketing and any other suggestions to get our message and education out there for the brand to be quoted along with other common antenatal classes like Parents Centre or BirthEd.

Hi guys, I have a small online shop that ticks along but I think some products that I’d like to push further are ones that people need to see and feel before buying.  I’d love to get these into some stores, but I just don’t know where to start!  Questions going around in my head are: Do I need to have stock first before approaching store buyers (some are still in development but I have samples)? What is a typical wholesale margin? What are the agreements (buying vs commission based)? Are there legal implications that I should be thinking about?  Is there a ‘retail mentor’ out there or are there other resources that I could look at to help guide me through some of these questions?

Hey, thanks for providing this platform! I run a small business (mobile coffee cart) that is essentially a social enterprise (in short, it exists to empower young women to enter the workforce) and was wondering whether you could recommend any good mentoring avenues in this specific space? Thanks 🙂

Support for a new Sun Protective Activewear label

      Question submitted 06/05/20 @ 01:45pm

Hi I'm Sara, and I'm in the process of launching a new Sun Protective Activewear Label - Hākinakina. Hākinakina is te reo Māori for play and is about encouraging women to take their play seriously. I want to give them the tools for living their lives to the full. Living where we do, that means serious sun protection and that’s where UPF50+ swimwear comes in (later other activewear). It’s not any old sun protection either, it is full of life and attitude and features unique prints I have designed myself. The fabric is made from recycled yarn from plastic bottles and garbage from the sea and a % of every sale will go to a cancer charity. I have a very personal story for starting the business which I wont go into now. I'm new to New Zealand and am ideally looking for some support/mentoring in what is a a new country to me. I don't have a support network. I'm an ex marketing strategist and also had a print womenswear label in the UK for 6 years. I am in product sampling at the moment and am trying to build a community for the brand through social media. I was due to launch around now but will probably look at moving that out towards Summer. I have questions around my business model, building a profile, having a business mentor and manufacturing. I would appreciate any help you could give. Thanks so much. Sara

      Question submitted 05/05/20 @ 08:41pm

I’m hoping someone can give me some advice? I’m not a business but I started from the ground up a community centre last december 2019 and of course had to close our doors due to Covid 19. Apart from having our Certificate of Incorporation I am still in the process of getting our IRD,  Charities number and funding. Is there some advice or financial help that we may be able to apply for to help with ongoing essential costs. We are not a church or council run community centre. Thankyou. Heather Taylor

      Question submitted 04/05/20 @ 10:12am

Hi Experts  bonjour-havelock-north.myshopify.comAbove is the link to my online store set up by myself, with remote help from a friend over the last five weeks.  It isn’t working.  Once you see it I’m sure you’ll know why.  It’s clunky, hard to navigate and rather boring.  I don’t know what else to do.  I’ve attended multiple online courses and am overwhelmed.  I’m not tech savvy (circa 1960) but have tried my very best. I have spent a lot of time loading stock onto the store and still have a lot more to do in that regard. I understand I need branding and marketing strategies also. I need help with this too. I’ve owned my store for only 19 months and I love it so much and I’m feeling desperate not to lose it. Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi Team,Over the last year or so, my Sister and I have been brainstorming, researching and learning what we need to, to start our little side business. Our services fall in beauty and fashion.Due to the lockdown, we’ve invested way more time in planning and studying etc however, we’re now unsure if we should even start a business that is close-contact whilst there is no cure for Covid-19 yet.Would you suggest we hold off on this business venture until the foreseeable future?Thank you all for your time to help all of us during these uncertain times.Warmest regards,xo
