Do discounts and sales actually work? How often should I do them? I don’t want to devalue my brand.

Hello Team,we are a new start up selling ready to eat meals through our website gourmetbrothers.co.nzwe have had virtually no orders at all while we read in media that this trend is on the up and such businesses are likely to do well in coming times. We have offered a mix of lifestyle meals like keto, vegan, gluten and dairy free, however still no luck. We invested all savings to come here and are running out of ideas. We would really appreciate if you guys can look at our website and suggest us what could we do to get going. Thanks heaps.RegardsRonnie

Jacinda Ardern wears our (handmade fine porcelain and 9 carat gold) earrings on a weekly basis and has done for the last few years. Our key to business success is to direct sales through our website. How can we leverage Jacinda wearing our earrings to drive sales nationally and internationally?

Hi team,   I’m looking for some help with marketing, our business is very local based and we have always enjoyed a good turnover, however now that we have opened up in level 3 to online orders for delivery and takeaways we have managed to only get 10% of our sales for this first week.   I wonder if it is our online presence or the way we are attempting to get our message out there, or simply our old customers are not web-based,  so how do we still communicate with them?   I am also wondering it is something as simple as we are passing on the credit card fees charged for processing credit cards,  have your team found any information to support lack of sales due to credit card charges, or have you come across any payment solutions to offer direct bank transfers free of charge.   Other than invoicing and waiting on payment as this does not work over weekend transfers.

      Question submitted 30/04/20 @ 12:02pm

We are a small camping ground and farmstay business on the Queen Charlotte Track, Marlborough. We have no road access and therefore doing anything is quite complex and usually physically quite difficult. We will be the last cab off the rank with getting going I suspect because we have nothing to do with essential services. The competition for domestic tourism will be fierce and there will be big players with lots of knowledge and skills competing for the NZ domestic tourists. We, Graham and I (58 and 61 years old), have grown the camping ground, added farmstay and cabins from a less than $10,000. business to a $65,000 business in 4 years. We are still small, don’t really fit into any association that will represent us clearly but need to fight with the bigger tourism operators for business in this coming season. We need to talk through social media, marketing electronically and how to target specific markets with someone who is able to explain it so that we can understand. We largely direct market. Booking agencies etc don’t work well out here. We cannot fill cancelled bookings if within a month of visit because we are remote and part of a bigger QCT experience. Their refund policies leave us in a hole.

Steaming??? Clothing Retail in Level 2

      Question submitted 29/04/20 @ 09:27am

Making plans to reopen our bricks and mortar clothing store at level 2, but can't seem to get any official advice regarding sanitising clothes after someone has tried them on. We're hoping that steaming them will be a good option, bc heat seems to kill the virus and we don't want to have to hot wash everything. Your advice and any official sources very much appreciated!

      Question submitted 22/04/20 @ 03:05pm

Hello, I have made the decision to close my hospitality business – restaurant.  All forward bookings have been cancelled.  It was for sale for the 4 months prior to the covid19 crisis however then it had “worth”.  Regular monthly function bookings and also advance bookings and a healthy turnover.  It relies heavily on the tourist trade, both summer and winter as we are close to Tekapo and en-route to Queenstown.  It is in a small older population community, so therefore don’t really have a local base to draw on.  I am now wanting to get out, as I have another career that I can return to that offers a secure income.  My main aim at the moment is to rescue what I can of the initial capital investment that I put in.  I will put it up for sale on trade me for “offers” which will mean that the plant, fixtures and fittings will go to the new owner, but if it doesn’t sell (which I am not hopeful about) how do I get rid of all the plant, fixtures and fittings.  Are there companies that can come in and buy all of this and remove it for them to resell/auction and are they going to want to buy it when they too have no certainty of resale in the current climate.  We currently do not have any debts that we need to cover, as we are all up to date as of 20/4.  The current lease expires 1 July and of course I will not be renewing it, although there is a right of renewal available 3 + 3.  As I have said, all I really want to do is recoup some of my investment so that I do not lose the lot.  Re-opening will result in the need for me to go into debt which I do not want to do.  What is the best way for me to proceed?
